About the Discipline

Ophthalmology is a discipline of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.

Our main aim as the  Department of Ophthalmology is to provide high quality training, ophthalmic care and adapt to the challenges of a changing environment

Vision

  • To develop the Department of Ophthalmology into a high quality training and ophthalmic care unit adapting to the challenges of a changing environment

Mission

  • To provide, in a conscientious and compassionate way, the best possible ophthalmic care for our patients.
  • To undertake the training of postgraduate doctors academically, technically and ethically in Ophthalmology
  • To undertake undergraduate teaching of Ophthalmology
  • To assist in Nursing training in Ophthalmology

Goals

  • To provide patients with an Ophthalmological service based on professional standards
  • To provide regular and emergency services for the patients in our district and to provide outreach services to all the patients in our province
  • To provide and maintain high standards of care through objective analysis, review, evaluation and audit of the service
  • To develop a multi-disciplinary team approach
  • To enable patients and their carers to make informed choices by providing enough information
  • To encourage research in the department of Ophthalmology
