BIOSKETCH She is a Principal Pathologist at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) KwaZulu-Natal Academic Complex, based at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital in Durban, South Africa. She graduated with an MBChB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 1992, obtained her Fellowship in Microbiology in 1999, and completed a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Medical Microbiology in 2015. Her master’s research focused on antifungal susceptibility testing of Cryptococcus neoformans, reflecting her longstanding interest in clinical mycology.With more than 25 years of experience across several NHLS laboratories in Durban, she has established herself as an experienced clinical microbiologist with expertise in diagnostic microbiology, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and infectious diseases. She currently provides specialist microbiology oversight mainly to the paediatric, neurosurgical, and haematology services at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital.Her clinical and research interests include neurosurgical infections, paediatric infectious diseases, medical mycology, and antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance. She is committed to advancing laboratory medicine through clinically relevant research and has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications.An enthusiastic educator and mentor, she plays a pivotal role in undergraduate and postgraduate microbiology education, leading the MBChB and specialist registrar training programmes within the department. She has supervised numerous postgraduate research projects and is passionate about developing the next generation of clinicians and clinical microbiologists
