Grace, elegance, camaraderie and triumphant cheers personified the Class of 2025’s Registrar Year-end Celebration at the Oyster Box Hotel.
“UKZN’s medical specialist programme (Registrar Programme) is one of the largest in the country, utilising various hospitals as its teaching platform in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Currently, we have over 350 doctor care training in over 29 specialties,” said the event’s host and School of Medicine’s Registrar Programme Discipline Head, Professor Kimesh Naidoo.
The Dean and Head of UKZN’s School of Medicine, Professor Refiloe Masekela, congratulated not only the award recipients but also the entire registrar class of 2025, commending them on the countless hours juggled between their studies and displaying excellence in clinical practice. She thanked Naidoo on leading a “world-class” programme and wished the registrars the very best in their respective areas of specialisation.
The evening’s programme was directed by the Medical School’s Operations Manager, Ms Nomakhwezi Khanyile, along with its multi award-winning specialist psychiatrist and alumnus, Dr Bonginkosi Mafuze, who scooped the Class of 2024’s Best Registrar Leader and Registrar of the Year awards.
“It was a night about honouring the journey of hard work and hope – the 2025 registrars gathered not just to end a year, but to celebrate the future they’re shaping together,” Mafuze said.
Congratulations to this year’s winners!
